A lower body lift is an elective outpatient surgery to remove excess skin and fat along the lower torso, sometimes referred to as a circumferential abdominoplasty. A body lift entails an incision completely around the lower torso, similar to an abdominoplasty. This type of incision will allow for elevation of tissue 360 degrees around the body, resulting in a mild outer thigh lift, as well as optimizing the overall contour of your lower body. A lower body lift candidate is most often one who has had massive weight loss, and this surgery can be combined or staged with other body contouring surgeries.

As with any surgery, there will be scarring. The degree of scarring will vary between patients, and the patient’s skin tone, history of raised scars or keloids, sun exposure, and location of the scars are just some of the factors that can contribute to the extent of visibility of your scars. Appropriate scar care is vital in minimizing the appearance of scarring. The scar(s) will need SPF sun protection with sun exposure to minimize the appearance of the scars.

We offer Arnica to reduce the bruising/swelling post-operatively and bioCorneum (silicone scar gel with SPF 30) both of which will optimize your scars appearance. Sun protection with SPF greater than 30 along the scar is imperative for at least the first six months following surgery.

Following your surgery, you will be placed in a compression garment, most likely an abdominal binder, and it is important to maintain all follow-up appointment to optimize your care. Each patient’s anatomy varies, and their surgical plan will be customized to meet their needs.
