Enhanced Recovery for Safer Surgery

Undergoing reconstructive or aesthetic surgery at Florida Plastic Surgery Group is easier, faster, and safer with our advanced recovery protocol: ERAS, or “Enhanced Recovery After Surgery.” This approach allows our patients to have a comfortable recovery without the risks and side effects associated with powerful opioid pain medications.

How does ERAS work?

ERAS involves several different drug classes to successfully manage surgical pain. You will likely be given one medication from each group. You will also be given pain control medications prior to your surgery at the facility, during your surgery, and prescriptions to take after surgery. Based on the type of surgery, you may be administered a non-opioid anesthetic block that keeps pain under control for three to four days following your surgery or a local anesthetic injected into the surgical sites. You will also be administered pre-surgery pain control.

How will my pain be managed through ERAS?

The medications used in this advanced recovery protocol include:

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) purchased over the counter. You must not exceed 4,000 mg of Tylenol (acetaminophen) in 24 hours.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs): Ibuprofen (Motrin), Aleve
Gabapentin (Neurontin) (for nerve pain)
